WPL 2026: Gujarat Giants Seal Playoffs Spot! GG Break the MI  in a 11-Run Thriller

What a night in Vadodara! On Friday, January 30, 2026, the Gujarat Giants (GG) did something they had never done before—they defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI). After 8 losses in a row against MI, the Giants finally broke the "curse" and booked their ticket to the WPL 2026 Eliminator!

The Aussie Rescue Act

The Giants won the toss and decided to bat first, but things didn't look great early on. They were struggling at 71/3, and it seemed like Mumbai’s bowlers, especially Amelia Kerr, were in total control.

Then, two Australian superstars, Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham, joined forces:

  • Ashleigh Gardner: Smashed 46 runs off 28 balls, hitting 7 fours and a huge six.

  • Georgia Wareham: Played a lightning-fast knock of 44 off 26 balls*.

  • The Partnership: Together, they added 71 runs in no time, helping Gujarat reach a strong total of 167/4.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s One-Woman Fight

Mumbai Indians had a nightmare start. They lost their top three batters—Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Sajeevan Sajana—for just 37 runs.

But you can never count out MI Captain Harmanpreet Kaur. She played one of the best innings of the season:

  • Harmanpreet’s Score: A massive 82 runs off just 48 balls*.

  • The Drama: She hit 8 fours and 4 sixes, keeping Mumbai in the game until the very last over.

However, she didn't get enough help from the other end. Even with her heroics, Mumbai finished at 156/7, falling 11 runs short.

The Big Takeaway: Playoffs Are Set!

This wasn't just a regular win. This victory was a "Golden Ticket" for the Gujarat Giants.

  1. Eliminator Bound: With this win, the Gujarat Giants have officially qualified for the Eliminator match!

  2. MI in Danger: This loss was a huge blow for Mumbai Indians. They now have to wait for other match results to see if they can make it to the playoffs.
