WPL 2026: Gujarat Giants Roar Back to Life in Vadodara! 

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) just got a whole lot more exciting! On Thursday, the Gujarat Giants took on the UP Warriorz at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium (Kotambi). It was a must-win game for the Giants, and they delivered it perfectly.

First Innings: Sophie Devine’s Calm Class

UP Warriorz won the toss and decided to bowl first. At first, it seemed like a smart move as they kept taking wickets at regular intervals. However, two players stood tall for Gujarat:

  • Sophie Devine: The "New Zealand powerhouse" played a beautiful, unbeaten knock of 50 off 42 balls*. She hit 2 fours and 3 massive sixes!

  • Beth Mooney: The captain added a solid 38 runs, helping the team build a foundation.

Thanks to a late surge from Devine, the Giants reached 153/8 in their 20 overs. For the Warriorz, Kranti Gaud was the star with the ball, taking 2 wickets for just 18 runs.

Second Innings: The UP Warriorz Collapse 

Chasing 154 on a slow pitch was never going to be easy, but no one expected the Warriorz to struggle this much. Their batting lineup fell apart like a house of cards:

  • Early Trouble: Star opener Kiran Navgire went for a "duck" (zero), and captain Meg Lanning was out for 14.

  • A Lone Fight: Only Phoebe Litchfield (32) and Chloe Tryon (30)* showed some resistance.

The Gujarat Giants' bowlers were relentless. They bundled out the UP Warriorz for just 108 runs, winning the match by a massive 45 runs.

Player of the Match: Rajeshwari Gayakwad 

The hero of the night was the veteran spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad. She made a brilliant comeback, finishing with amazing figures:

  • Wickets: 3

  • Runs Given: 16

  • Economy: 4.0 (That is incredibly low for T20!) 

  They jumped from the bottom of the table all the way to the 2nd spot. This huge win has kept their playoff dreams alive and healthy.
